Kestrels: Under 18s Whites vs. California Royals (A) 6-0 Martin 10 50 75 Nash 14 Coyle 72 Sawyer 64 |
|
Kestrel White booked their place in the League Cup Final to be held at Binfield FC on May 1st with a convincing 6-0 win over California Royals. The opening seconds on the match started badly for the Royals by losing their keeper by a nasty broken finger in a goalmouth scramble. George Martin was the first to meet a Jordan Sawyers corner to head home after 10 minutes and set the tone for the next twenty minutes. Good forward runs by Mike Prince Dan Marioni and Jordan Sawyer kept the pressure on the Royals and within 4 minutes the second goal came from a move by Dan Marioni down the left which was met by Vinnie Nash to knee in the second with 14 minutes on the clock. The next chance came to Dan Moloney who got himself in a good scoring position to see his effort go wide of the target. Both Vinnie and Mike had their own chances Mike having a one on one with the keeper which he would normally convert but not on this occasion pushing wide of the far post from 8 yards. California started to get a share of the game winning the midfield battle but never putting keeper Maxted under pressure. Jordan four minutes into added time struck a right footed shot which brushed the bar to finish a half of mixed emotions for manager Chris Maxted who was disappointed with the poor first touch and low conversion of passes.
The second half needed to be better and the all important third goal was required to put the game beyond the spirited Royals. It was Jordan who did this for the Kestrels when he turned well in the box and let fire a powerful shot that hit the roof of the net 19 minutes into the half. The team still not convincing kept moving forward but the final ball wasn't there today and lots of promising moves broke down. Luke Tanner, George Martin and Jordan seemed to be more in tune with the game than others but although not playing his best game Ali Dickie did find a few good passes which set up good scoring chances which he took the credit for. It was that man Martin who scored his second with a hard shot that boucned in front of the keeper to find its way in and give the Whites a four goal lead. Ben Coyle playing in the back four scored his first goal of the season having attacked the Royals defence and slotted in the ball in the bottom left hand corner of the goal to make it 5-0. Ben soon after got the taste of goal again this time the replacement keeper got down well to save. Credit must go to the Royals keeper who put in a fine display to prevent the Kestrels adding to their total. The final goal from a well worked corner involving Luke, Jordan set up George Martin for his 3rd with another far post header.
George Maxted although for long periods was not involved was called into action and dived well at the feet on the Royals Striker to prevent them getting on the score sheet. Sam Woodruff playing in his normal central back position made an excellent tackle in our area to prevent the Royals getting a shot on goal in the last ten minutes Although this wasn’t the best game the Kestrels have played their reward was a place in the final against Maidenhead Cavaliers who won against FC Bracknell 3-0.
Team Maxted Coyle Tanner Nash Dickie Martin Prince Marioni (injured on 30) McCormack Moloney Wakefield Sawyer Woodruff.
